You were meant to be a bird free
To the prescribed norms you did not agree
You aimed to fly higher than your flock
You weren’t like them, is what they mocked
You were different I always knew
To hide you from them I had to find ways new
A castle I built with the brightest colors
I cooked delicacies of varied flavors
I gave you the costliest toys to play
To make you forget the blue skies I tried all ways
You drifted apart in to a world unknown
You quest to conquer the skies I had always known
The golden cage I built, strangled your flight
To confine you I hadn’t any right
I let open the castle doors
Through the skies you are now free to soar
I no longer dread what they think
To protect you I don’t need to clip your wings
For God has made us all unique
To survive and thrive, the skies will teach you the technique
You were meant to be a bird free
To the prescribed norms you need not agree
