They looked at her face, as she stood on the stage
She so wanted to avoid that piercing gaze
They looked for the perfect cuts and curves
Their demeanour was getting on her nerves
The poetry she quoted fell on ears deaf
All that mattered was how she carried self
Of her intellect and talent they never cared
Over her mind her beauty is what fared
They praised her for looks and skin color so fair
Her beauty overshadowed her brain
Her thoughts and virtues were not talked about
Physical attraction is all it was, who wants to know her inside out?
She stood there as a princess of a fairy tale
Wondering if it’s her work or her beauty on sale
She questioned her appearance god gifted
A time when the beauty wears off, will they remember her character so well crafted?
