A lost friend

A picture of you I saw in an album old

The bitter sweet memories that now unfold

The hands we held

The cycles we pedalled

The innocence we shared

The selfless care

The classes we bunked

The exams we flunked

The excuses we made

The silly pranks we played

To grow up with you was fun

Other than you, I had a friend none

The last day of school, I saw you in a different light

It wasn’t a love at first sight

That was the day those feelings changed

I tried so hard to remain unfazed

We laughed at those cliched romantic movies

All the while my heart believed in those stories

I gathered strength to confess my love

You questioned why this change now?

You drifted apart in a circle new

I calibrated my life to avoid you

Time never healed the scars

To be with you wasn’t in my stars

The picture of you I tore it apart

My heart still waits for a fresh start
